        22. \u00a0 SEX<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

        Much to the surprise of many Christians, sex was God’s idea.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Unfortunately the sex life of many Christian couples is everything except something beautiful. It is often an area of deep discontentment and repeated disagreement. During the courtship they waited with full expectation to enter into marriage, they thought it would free them from their sexual frustrations and an immediate paradise would result! Honeymoon may be the first place where this illusion could begin to get jolted. The first week\u2019s crises are followed by many more crises over the years. Finally they may come to the conclusion that good sexual adjustments do not come naturally. One thing is certain sex life takes time, efforts and a very large amount of unselfishness.<\/span><\/p>\n

        God says it is good. Marriage Counselors on the other hand rank it very high on the list of Problem Causes. Why should there be such a difference of opinion?<\/span><\/p>\n

        One of the major pit falls is the pre-marital sex<\/strong> and the other major area is the extra-marital<\/strong> sex. <\/strong> Within marriage it is good but outside marriage it is SIN. And sin is a burden. Every sin has the property to turn us away from God and it is because of this turning away from God that we feel burdened.<\/span><\/p>\n

        We live in a time of growing sexual freedom. Even though all practicing Christians reject animal like sex, there is now a growing tolerance towards pre-marital sex. The idea seems to be, if two people truly love each other, why should they not enjoy sex already. This thinking, among many other things shows a vast amount of unstableness. It is unstable because the main part of the thinking fails to realize that sex is a union. And this union is not between just two people. It is a union, which also takes God into account. <\/strong>Just as marriage is not a bi-union between husband and wife. It is a tri-union between God, husband and wife. Sex is therefore not to run contra to the interest of the tri-union. Both the Old as well as the New Testament had a lot to say on this subject.<\/span><\/p>\n

        For example:<\/span><\/p>\n

        1 Thessalonians 4:3<\/span>, <\/strong>Thessalonicher 4:3.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

        Fornication also cheats the other person, robs the other person of their rightful affection. Apart from this, it robs the other person of virginity, which should have been brought into the future marriage as a present to the spouse. It also robs the person of self-respect. It leaves a lurking suspicion of the chances of future infidelity in the future spouse’s mind. Above all, it robs the person of the most valuable property \u00ad a clear conscience.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Like the previous point where there is a growing social laxity and somewhat resigned acceptance towards pre-marital sex, there is another area of similar tolerance, this is the area of either having sexual relations or outright marriage with divorced persons. Just as there are degrees of social resignation and acceptance in pre-marital sex (one of the major appeasement being the so called excuse that, if there is genuine liking and the intention of marriage, why should they not start enjoying themselves earlier. \u00ad The marriage certificate is after all a mere paper. Isn’t it?), so also in this area there are degrees of social resignation and acceptance. While most people are still outraged at extra \u00ad marital sex flings, they tend to have a diluted value norm towards sex with people who have separated from their spouse and society seems to be almost at peace if sex is to be had with a divorced person. Often remarrying a divorced person is looked upon sympathetically like giving a widowed person another chance to a fuller life. From societies point of view there seems to be an almost total absolution from guilt by the mere possibility that divorce proceedings are likely to come through.<\/span><\/p>\n

        In view of the high rate of marriage separations and divorces taking place, the chances of coming into contact with separated and divorced people is more numerous than it was imagined a few years ago. In view of this state of social development, it is absolutely imperative that some words are spent on this subject.<\/span><\/p>\n

        a) Because of the already vast number of separations and divorces, ample varieties of tangential behaviors have emerged. Some of these have gained social resignation by the fact that the numbers of such incidences are so large and people come to think that this must be technically in order. Some other norms have gained acceptance because it seem to be a popular choice. Unless one has very sound moral principles some norms or the other is likely to sound acceptable.<\/span><\/p>\n

        b) Intervened with social outlook are other factors one of them could be the undeniable fact that already married people may have a somewhat more mature, perhaps also a more mellowed approach towards close and quasi marital relationships. This could have an appealing effect regardless of whether the other person is also married or unmarried, young or old. This fact may make attraction possible. Furthermore there is always a tendency to explore the other person from both the personality as well as the physical angle.<\/span><\/p>\n

        c) There is a marked drop in the guilt factor when one knows that the other person has had a previous sex-life.<\/span><\/p>\n

        d) There is less danger of having to marry a divorced or separated person as compared to an unmarried person. So people have fewer inhibitions towards their conscience or toward possible mistakes.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Now days it is quite likely for a person to face situations of coming into close contact with separated and divorced persons. People in large towns and cities will have even more chance of such contact. So the combination of social acceptance, tolerance to promiscuity and easy availability to estranged people may be quite a tempting proposition. Quite obviously the guidelines cannot be based on the wishy-washy and confused social norms. So let us examine what the Bible has to say, marital difficulties and divorce is not something new.<\/span><\/p>\n

        In Mark 10:6-9<\/span>,<\/strong> Markus 10:6-9<\/span>, <\/strong> we read that the Pharisees came and asked Jesus about his opinion on divorce. Jesus answered:<\/span><\/p>\n

        \u201cBUT FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE CREATION GOD MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE. FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH. SO THAT THEY ARE NO LONGER TWO, BUT ONE FLESH. THEREFORE WHAT GOD HAS JOINED TOGETHER, LET NOT MAN SEPARATE.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Marital harmony is achieved with and through interaction with the partner. So off-loading and dumping the partner is obviously not the right move. Each spouse must keep this in mind especially when those rough and difficult moments come up in marriage. And every other person connected with the married couple should keep this in mind. If he or she wants to help it should be toward re-uniting the couple and not making convenient of their situation.<\/span><\/p>\n

        The Holy Script has already warned that God is the avenger of all such acts. . . . He can punish disobedient, self-will by different ways: \u00ad VD; unwanted pregnancy; unbearable feeling of guilt or unshakable suspicion. Some may try to resort to guilt or unshakable suspicion.         Maybe there are people who are saying, “Now we are married, but the scars of previous guilt and past suspicions are destroying our present sex life.” What should we do? Each partner can acknowledge his \/ her sin to the other and ask for pardon. We must also confess our sin to God and ask His pardon. WE ARE NOT OURS, WE ARE HIS. By wounding our partner or any other fellow person, we are wounding God’s property. God is a merciful and forgiving father \u00ad always ready to forgive. The sweet assurance of forgiveness on both sides makes a new start possible it also makes it easier.<\/span><\/p>\n

        A second obstruction is the thought that sex is dirty or sinful. There are in fact quite a few Christians that think so. They take the attitude that sex is necessary for procreation but it is certainty not a legal enjoyment. The Bible says very clearly that God made man and woman and sex was a part of His plans \u00ad for husband and wife!<\/span><\/p>\n

        The purpose of this chapter is only to bring the thought to mind that the Bible has said something with all frankness in this direction.
