Either one or both partners may have something of this problem.<\/span><\/p>\n We saw that marriage is a divine establishment. That God made man and woman to complement one another. When a man and a woman are joined in matrimony, God makes them into a single entity. He expects them to function as one in purpose, motivation, interest, understanding and sympathy. But what we often see is any thing but oneness. Many Christian houses are well known for disunity, arguments, screaming, pouting. Every one is pulling in different directions and chaos is the result. Harmony will never be achieved until every one pulls in the same direction! This is to be in tune with God’s Spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n It is always easier to see mistakes, shortfalls in the partner. Often wives enjoy discussions about, what, and, how, the responsibility of the husband should be. Husbands love to emphasize the role of the wife\u2019s, submission. But neither the husband nor the wife can fulfill the desired role in marriage without the help of the Holy Spirit. And we cannot get His help until WE HAVE RECEIVED THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AS OUR PERSONAL SAVIOUR.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Most people really do want to be the kind of husband or wife that they should be, but they cannot attain this level by their own strength because of their fallen nature. They are constantly confronted with a lot of physical, emotional and mental adjustments in the marriage. Let us face it, we all have a fallen nature that needs to be improved upon.<\/span><\/p>\n The relationship is burdened with divergent differences of opinions and daily misunderstandings. The situation is, two egos, each selfish, each sinful constantly seeking individuals contentment and well-being. The odds against marriage happiness are almost un-bridgeable. However, there is the power of the Holy Spirit. With the Supreme power the differences can be bridged. Let us see how we can receive the power. Apostle Paul divides the human race into 3 main categories:<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(1) THE ‘NATURAL\u2019 OR ‘SOULISH\u2019 MAN (I Corinthians 2:14)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Der irdisch gesinnte Mensch<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n (2) THE \u2018CARNAL\u2019 OR ‘FLESHY\u2019 MAN (I Corinthians 3:1)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n irdisch eingestellt,<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n (3) THE ‘SPIRITUAL\u2019 MAN (I Corinthians 2:15)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Der geisterf\u00fcllte Mensch<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The ‘NATURAL or ‘SOULISH man \u00ad His human nature was never alive to God. The Holy Scriptures says he is spiritually dead. (Ephesians<\/span> Epheser<\/span> 2:1)<\/span>. <\/strong>And needs to be saved , (Acts 16:3<\/span>, <\/strong>Die Apostelgeschichte 16:3) <\/strong><\/span>His life is ruled by the ‘Flesh\u2019 that is by his sinful nature. It is this nature that accounts for all his weaknesses like anger, jealousy and produce so much turmoil in marriage.<\/span><\/p>\n The \u2019CARNAL\u2019 or \u2019FLESHY\u2019 man – This person is a Christian, but his sinful nature seems to have control over him most of the time. He slides back into the same weakness like anger, jealousy, envy, bitterness and resentment and the qualities he previously had, before he came to God.<\/span><\/p>\n The ‘SPIRITUAL\u2019 man \u00ad This sort of person is one who has made Jesus Christ his personal saviour and has allowed the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in him. He is mature, spiritual, stable and a strong person.<\/span><\/p>\n Even if only one of the two partners is controlled by the Holy Spirit, perfect unity is not possible. This marriage is any day happier for the simple reason that, at least one of the partners radiates the love of the Holy Spirit. The full potential of marriage happiness is however absent. No sinful ego has the same aspiration, the same motive or the same power as one that is controlled by the Holy Spirit. The two partners will still continue to cherish diametrically opposite set of goals and values.<\/span><\/p>\n Perfect unity is possible only when the Holy Spirit is given control of both lives, so that He can transform both people to be in harmony with each other. This is possible because the Holy Spirit is a real \u2018God Person\u2019 of the Blessed Trinity. He can set objectives, instill motivations, and develop attitudes and initiate action. He has the power to orchestrate these actions and make these objectives possible. Furthermore, His Spirit can dwell simultaneously in different people at the same time and unite hearts. There is no other way for perfect unity between husband and wife apart from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in both partners. When both partners are in step with the Holy Spirit they will be automatically in step with each other.<\/span><\/p>\n Many marriage partners seek unity of the body through sex and unity of the mind through personal conversation, but they neglect the most important area \u00ad the unity of Spirit. They seldom pray together. <\/strong>Praying together does not mean just going together to Church and once they are in the church each one behaves like \u201conly\u201d He \/ She and God are on the same wavelength. They may pray for the other members of the family and for the special wants or needs of each of the family members, but they seldom pray with one another. It is important in the interest of unity that the family prays together with one another. The whole family can be tuned on the same wavelength when praying. This gives prayer an enlarged dimension, this make prayer powerful, this makes unity stronger. This gives strength. Pray bridges families that have to be circumstantially separated because of holidays, studies, jobs, etc. Even when one or more members have to be physically separated; they know that they have a strong binding in unity through the Spirit of prayer. The separation of husband and wife because of finance, opinions, feelings, differences of one kind or another are just as real as the physical separations mentioned above. It is through the Spirit that unity can be made possible, in spite of all the differences and hardships.<\/span><\/p>\n In spite of efforts for attaining unity of body and mind through or personal conversation, if the Spirit is not included, the marriage will break up sooner or later. Artificial adhesion because of social pressure, the children, prestige, financial reasons can somehow keep family together, but then anything that is artificially held together will show eventually. This is the reason why affairs, sex fling; having someone on the side does not offer any lasting happiness. It turns out to be a guilty move right from start, and continue all the way through. Whether a person off loads his \/ her partner, or not, is another problem. But affairs, sex flings and living with someone on the side can only bring harm, because this is principally not in conformance to the plan of God. Regardless of all camouflage or convincing of ones self and the lover, about true and undying love, and regardless of the promiscuous social norms, arguments and excuses, one cannot come on the spiritual plane and these unions are doomed to failure.<\/span><\/p>\n When one thinks carefully, most marriage that went on the rocks were because the husband and wife could not reach the third plane, – the Spirit Plane. <\/strong>So no matter how frustrated a partner may become, of a disturbed or broken marriage, it would be absolute foolish and uninformed for a person to resort to affairs, sex flings, or having someone else on the side.<\/span><\/p>\n It is God\u2019s wish that people surrender their will voluntarily to His Will. Even though this is His wish, He has still given us the freedom to choose. That is why we say God has given us a FREE WILL to choose. Life is an Art, (we can make it a success), we can make it happy. The formula will be to unite in Spirit, and then the Unity of Body and Mind will fall automatically into place.<\/span><\/p>\n Just like a person who is full of wine, will be controlled by wine. So also a person controlled by the Holy Spirit will be full of the Holy Spirit. The influence of the Holy Spirit is manifested in the following gifts:<\/span><\/p>\n LOVE, JOY, PEACE, LONG SUFFERING, FRIENDSHIP, KINDNESS, FAITHFULNESS, MEEKNESS AND SELF-CONTROL. – Galatians. 5:22.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n 22 \u201eDie Frucht des Geistes aber ist Liebe, Freude, Friede, Langmut, Freundlichkeit, G\u00fcte, Treue,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n 23 Sanftmut und Selbstbeherrs<\/strong>chung.\u201c Galater 5:22<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Contention is impossible when these gifts are radiating.<\/span><\/p>\n If the influence of the Holy Spirit is so absolutely necessary for a Christian marriage, we should know how to be ‘filled\u2019 with the Holy Spirit. Here are some suggestions:<\/span><\/p>\n (1) Examine your conscience \u00ad Search yourself. Read God\u2019s word in 1 Corinthians II: 28-31<\/strong>, which say,<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBUT LET A MAN EXAMINE HIMSELF, AND SO LET HIM EAT OF THAT BREAD AND DRINK OF THAT CUP. FOR HE WHO EATS AND DRINKS IN AN UNWORTHY MANNER EATS AND DRINKS JUDGMENT TO HIMSELF, NOT DISCERNING THE LORD’S BODY. FOR THIS REASON MANY ARE WEAK AND SICK AMONG YOU, AND MANY SLEEP. FOR IF WE WOULD JUDGE OURSELVES, WE WOULD NOT BE JUDGED.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n 28 \u201eJeder soll sich selbst pr\u00fcfen; erst dann soll er von dem Brot essen und aus dem Kelch trinken.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n 29 Denn wer davon isst und trinkt, ohne zu bedenken, dass es der Leib des Herrn ist, der zieht sich das Gericht zu, indem er isst und trinkt.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n 30 Deswegen sind unter euch viele schwach und krank und nicht wenige sind schon entschlafen.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n 31 Gingen wir mit uns selbst ins Gericht, dann w\u00fcrden wir nicht gerichtet.\u201c<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n When problems well up in marriage, we look for faults in the partner. FIRST REMOVE THE PLANK FROM YOUR OWN EYE, AND THEN YOU WILL SEE CLEARLY TO REMOVE THE SPECK OUT OF YOUR BROTHER’S EYE.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201eDu Heuchler! Zieh zuerst den Balken aus deinem Auge, dann kannst du versuchen, den Splitter aus dem Auge deines Bruders herauszuziehen.\u201c<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n If we are honest, we will see that we are far from guiltless. We will be having different form of sin present in us like: anger, resentment, bitterness, unfriendliness, pride, and unforgiveness, coolness, selfishness, jealousy, anxiety, greed, lust, etc. Any one of these sins can bring unspeakable unrest in a home and in a marriage, but in most cases a multiple assortment of these sins are bound to be present at the same time \u00ad The result is: our sin alone, is enough to destroy a marriage and bring misery to a house.<\/span><\/p>\n (2) Confess your sins to God. In 1 John. 1:9<\/strong> we read,<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIF WE CONFESS OUR SINS, HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS AND TO CLEANSE US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n 9 \u201eWenn wir unsere S\u00fcnden bekennen, ist er treu und gerecht; er vergibt uns die S\u00fcnden und reinigt uns von allem Unrecht.\u201c 1 Johannes 1:9<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n When we are conscious of our sin, we must accept our sin as SIN and confess it to God and accept full responsibility for it. (Most of us try in one way or another to give God an excuse \u00ad this is not what He wants and He cannot be fooled either). Most of us try to blame our eruptions on the partner\u2019s provocation. I re-emphasize, we must be honest that SIN is SIN. Many time this effort, starts many marriage conflicts to the road of peace.<\/span><\/p>\n (3 Give every area of your life over to God. In Romans 12:1<\/strong><\/span> we read,<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI BESEECH YOU THEREFORE, BRETHREN, BY THE MERCIES OF GOD, THAT YOU PRESENT YOUR BODIES A LIVING SACRIFICE, HOLY, ACCEPTABLE TO GOD, WHICH IS YOUR REASONABLE SERVICE.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n 1 \u201eAngesichts des Erbarmens Gottes ermahne ich euch, meine Br\u00fcder, euch selbst als lebendiges und heiliges Opfer darzubringen, das Gott gef\u00e4llt; das ist f\u00fcr euch der wahre und angemessene Gottesdienst.\u201c R\u00f6mer 12:1<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n God wishes that we give ourselves to Him fully without any strings attached. Many people are scared to give their lives to God. They are apparently scared that He would make unreasonable demands on them. Or that He would, in some way or another bring difficulties and injury to them and in the process would loose control and make a hash out of their lives (READ Psalm. 18:30)<\/span>. <\/strong>Psalmen 18:30<\/strong><\/span> We have to give ourselves up with full trust over to Him. Only then we can be filled with the Holy Spirit and be controlled by Him.<\/span><\/p>\n Many people reading this book maybe confronted with this point, of surrendering our will and our ego to God, for the first time. I must say, I understand their difficulty in making a decision to place their lives in God’s hands. I was 39 when I was confronted. I understand the difficulty because for all the years, we have been geared towards, self-sufficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n Most of us see money, job, business, and worldly success as necessary for making, and maintaining self-sufficiency. Now suddenly we are face to face with the preposition towards change from \u2018Self-Sufficiency\u2019 to \u2018God-Sufficiency\u2019. Think it over! I thought it over and the result is this chapter. If we do not give our will over to Him, we will shrivel up under crises, and our whole personality will become unbearable for us, and with it, the potential for perfect marriage harmony will be lost.<\/span><\/p>\n Let us give our marriage a chance, let us do it God\u2019s way. Innumerable Christian\u2019s marriages have discovered that their helpless marriage was transformed into happy marriage when they gave themselves over to the Holy Spirit. Many have discovered this after long years of battling and after a lot of heartaches. Your marriage has a chance today itself.- ‘Do it God’s way’.<\/span><\/p>\n (4) People filled with the Holy Spirit will find peace, strength and contentment with the Son of God and they will always like to have Him with them. These People recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit, they speak frequently with God. They have His voice through the Bible; they cultivate fellowship with other believers. They lean on God for their strength to overcome sin. This sort of behavior is called, \u2018Dwelling with Christ\u2019, \n
